Want to know more about personal finance? Don’t want to study a textbook to do it? I’m with you there. And I have a heads-up for you: you should check out the latest version of the free, NFL-themed video game Financial Football 2.0.
When I first heard about it, I couldn’t wrap my head around a football-themed video game that teaches financial facts and skills. But after a sprint down the virtual field and a few finance-related questions, I started to get the picture. You answer financial questions correctly in order to move toward your opponent’s goal and score.
The original version of the game launched in 2005 and the new version, which features improved graphics and audio, was released September 13, 2010. Championing the release was New Orleans’ Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who has been working in partnership with Visa for years to help educate kids across the U.S. about money management. He was there for the official launch yesterday in Bay St. Louis, MS, too.
It’s as fun for college students and thirty-somethings as it is for highschoolers and parents. It’s even entertaining to those of us who don’t love football. And in case you think you already know everything you need to know, tell me this: What is a HELOC? Is negative amortization as bad as it sounds? With three levels of difficulty, you can get questions that are as easy or hard as you need.
If you want to brush up on your financial skills or you know a money management rookie who likes games, give it a go. You can head to iTunes and download a free app for your iPhone or iPad, or play the game at the Practical Money Skills website.
